Hair loss and balding

Even though a common observation is that men tend to have more hair loss and balding, this condition commonly affects women too. If you are losing more than the normal amount of hair, you will start noticing thinning of your hair. If those hairs are not replaced soon enough, you will start noticing bald patches too. There can be many reasons for hair thinning and baldness.

Illness: illnesses, infections, and certain medicines can cause you to lose your hair. Sometimes a physical trauma like surgery can also lead to hair loss. It can take a few weeks to several months for your hair to start thinning.

Chemicals: when you expose your hair and scalp to harmful chemicals, it will have a drastic negative effect on your hair health. For example, if you go for hair straightening treatments or hair colors, your hair might be able to withstand the damage the first few times, but it will eventually start getting brittle and thin. Similarly, hair products that are not formulated or preserved carefully can cause hair loss as well.

Hairstyles: sometimes, hair loss can also be self-inflicted. If you wear hairstyles that pull your hair too much, you will start noticing a receding hairline or overall thinning of the hair. For example, a high ponytail or hairstyle in which the hair is tied too tightly. It is best to make hairstyles that are loose and do not put too much stress on the roots.

Heat: heat is one of the biggest enemies of healthy hair. The heat from a curling iron, straightening iron, or blow dryer can damage the proteins in your hair. As a result, your hair will become dry brittle and will fall off easily. If you want to have healthy hair, you need to cut down the heat as much as possible.

Stress: stress can trigger hair loss. If you recently experienced trauma like the death of a loved one, loss of a job, or some other traumatic event, chances are you will experience hair loss to some extent. People who are going through PTSD are more likely to suffer from hair thinning. If the stress is not managed over a long period of time, it can lead to significant hair loss, especially when combined with other factors.

Poor diet: when it comes to hair loss, diet can play a crucial role in it. If you suddenly lose a lot of weight, it can make your hair fall out. Overall, a bad diet will result in thinning of hair as the body will lack the essential nutrients to promote the growth of healthy hair. It is essential to take a diet rich in nutrients like iron, fatty acids, vitamin D, vitamin E, biotin, and proteins.

Hereditary: Genes play a huge role in defining the health of your hair. If your parents experienced baldness or hair loss, you are likely to have inherited it from them.
